Play-Based Learning
and Core Values

We affirm that children learn through play. Play is structured to maximize a child’s success and minimize failure, which allows children to meet their needs for acceptance, affection, and approval. Children gain a strong sense of self-esteem and social competence through hands-on experience in a safe and supportive environment that respects individual needs, cultures and preferences. These core values are the essential and enduring tenets of First Impressions Learning Academy. These guiding principles have a profound impact on how we think and behave.

Hiedi Phillips

My name is Hiedi Phillips. I am the Administrator Educator here at First Impressions Learning Academy. I have been in education for over a year now and I am excited for many more. I have trained and been educated through the Child Education Institute as well as the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood. I enjoy reading and writing, spending time with my family and beach days! Two fun facts about myself would be that my favorite color is blue and I grew up on a farm with horses, llamas, chickens, cats and dogs, in other words, I love animals. My favorite part of being in the FILA family is the atmosphere and being able to influence children in a positive way by being a part of their growth and education. Children are full of so much excitement and imagination, and they know that the world is their playground. Everything they do and see is through new eyes and with that the eagerness to learn and absorb as much information as they can. I am so grateful to take part in those experiences and to help guide them along their journeys.
